Current news and events are important within the classroom to help students make connections about what they're learning. This is especially true as a social studies teacher. In my classes, we use what is current and making headlines to help bridge that gap between relevance and what can sometimes be archaic to the student. To those that want to know more about what is currently going on in the news but can't find time in the classroom, I introduce them to the world of UIL Current Issues and Events.
